Call for Artist Submissions for Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2009

Dear Artist,

We are writing to invite you to submit an application for the 13th

Application and Entry form.
The curatorial panel for the exhibition is Brenda May, Director,
Brenda May Gallery (Sydney), Gary Deirmendjian, Artist and Axel
Arnott, Head Curator, Sculpture by the Sea.
Sculpture by the Sea is the largest and most popular sculpture
exhibition in Australia, staged on the spectacular Bondi to Tamarama
coastal walk in Sydney. The exhibition sites over 100 sculptures from
Australian and overseas artists along 2km of coastline over 3 weeks
for an estimated 500,000 visitors. For the last 3 years the
exhibition has generated high levels of sculpture sales with
approximately 25% of outdoor sculptures selling as well as many from
our indoor exhibition Sculpture Inside.
It is important to note that for the last few years we have had over
40 artists exhibit with us for the first time, so we encourage you to
apply if you have not exhibited with us before.
We are also pleased to announce our annual Sculpture Conference "
Sculpture in Public Space" on Monday 2 November.
Each year we seek to generate a range of artist award and subsidies.
This year we have so far confirmed.
The Sculpture by the Sea Prize of a minimum of $30,000;
All artists who do not secure at least $2,000 from Sculpture by the
Sea in the form of either: sales, prizes; or subsidies will receive
the amount necessary to ensure they receive at least $2,000 towards
their costs;
The Clitheroe Foundation Mentor Program of $10,000 for 3 selected
emerging Australian artists and their mentors;
3 subsidies of $4,000 for artists of ephemeral and site specific

sculptures that by their nature are unlikely to be sold;
Return economy class airfares to Sydney for 5 overseas artists;
Return economy class airfares to Sydney for 5 interstate artists;
and Material sponsorship for selected artists including aluminium,
plasma or oxycut sheet metal.

In submitting your entry to Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2009 please
note:
Important changes to previous application forms are marked* with an
asterisk (*);
While we sell a couple of sculptures for over $100,000 each year, we
would equally like to encourage artists to consider exhibiting more
modest works, especially as most sculptures priced at $10,000 or less
sell;
