Cumulus 38° South

Cumulus 38° South invites educators, practitioners, and researchers to join our cross-disciplinary conversation, “How can design as a discipline transcend boundaries, shift thinking, and evolve to meet the needs of our future?

Cumulus is an international association of 140 universities and colleges of art, design and media. RMIT and Swinburne Design are organising the conference for Melbourne, Australia, 12-14 November, 2009. Presentations will be held in Melbourne's city centre as well as on both campuses.

The four conference themes are:

-Transcending disciplinary boundaries, creating new practices, processes and knowledge

-Transitions in art + design education, balancing teaching, learning and research

-Shifts in art + design practice and technology, defining new ways of working

-Repositioning art + design’s role in society, a catalyst for social change

Call for Student Work There is also a call for student design projects that have positive social impact.
