Architects Retreat event at the Glass House + Visual Acoustics screening

.

Still highly active, Julius Shulman, at 98, continues to take photography assignments and lecture invitations from around the world. While at home, Shulman and his incomparable archive continue to bring to life a Los Angeles style that he helped to create.

Julius Shulman continues as an outspoken advocate of imbuing the urban 21st century with a sense of humanity and a balance with the natural world. Shulman’s insistence on design in harmony with nature is formed by his own life experience – his passion for the solace of his own home garden and a deeply personal commitment to ecological causes.

Where: The Philip Johnson Glass House, 199 Elm Street New Canaan, CT 05840

When: 7:00 PM TUESDAY, JULY 7 - 7:00 PM WEDNESDAY, JULY 8

The event:
Architects Retreat will feature leading voices, on-site preservation studies, and critical conversations about new materials and technologies that will continue modernism’s progressive canon into the 21st Century. The dialogue, Citizen Designers, will examine expanding opportunities in architecture education and design leadership reflecting the growing public-interest design movement. Leaders from universities, foundations, and corporations will discuss the cultural imperative for design to become integral to social, economic, and political forces shaping our world.
