A truly festive event, Estuaire is part of the rapid development of the Nantes Saint-Nazaire metropolis. It involves large scale territory and the major art venues in the region :
-
Lieu Unique
-
FRAC: Fonds régional d’art contemporain des Pays de la Loire
-
Grand Café
-
Musée des Beaux-Arts
In 2007, 760 000 visitors came to the 30 sites, with art works including by Buren, Kawamata, Varini and Wurm.
In 2009, fifteen new works have been erected between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, providing the perfect excuse for a trip on the river or a walk along its banks.
From the river, visitors will discover a new arrangement of temporary buildings, including amphibious caravans and huts on stilts, where visitors can have something to eat or spend the night.
In Saint-Nazaire, the Grand Café, a building which dates back to 1864 has been housing a contemporary art centre since 1997.
Various tours are available, especially for groups:
- Walk along the riverbanks
- Follow the course of the estuary by boat and bus (6hr trip, including a 2hr 30 boat trip)
- Bike trips following the waymarked 'Loire à vélo' (Loire by bike) cycle route.
